[ Rinoa, bright-eyed, is sitting in her hotel room. There's a Growlithe curled up on her lap, relaxed, and an egg in the background. ]

Guess what? [ She waits a second or two—presumably for guessing--before continuing. ]

I got a job! I've been working at the PokeCenter for a day or two now, helping out with the patients.

It's not bad, and I want to save up some money, just in case!

[ She smiles at the camera, and then looks over her shoulder casually at the egg. ]

I've also got a new member of my team on the way! I'm going to name him Watts, when he comes—

[ As if on cue, the egg starts shaking and cracking slightly. She gasps and picks up the 'Gear, spinning it around so that the hatching egg is in focus. And then— ]

Char!

Aww, look at you, little guy! I think Watts is the perfect name for you~

Char Charmander! [ ...If you can understand Pokemon? The newly-Christened Watts is trying to explain that she's a girl, kthx. Rinoa just thinks "he's" saying hi. ]

[ Rinoa watches him intently. He's...drawing something, in the air. At least, she thinks so. ]

What is it? Are you trying to tell me something about Watts? [ She got that much, at least? ]

[ Okay, that's a clear "no." Thinks, thinks... ] Watts is a boyish name... [ Blinks. Maybe that's it. ] You're not a boy?

[Apology accepted, but she keeps banging her head. At least her trainer is starting to get it?]

It can give you much information about your Pokémon: size, weight, natural habitat, rumors... [Gender...]

Direct attacks tend to be pricier, actually. But all cost less than P10000.

I think my friend was telling me about it! [ Rinoa smiles. ] Are you hoping to get one, too?

[ She makes a gesture towards his egg. ]

[ DING DING DING. Watts visibly brightens and nods, trying to catch her trainer's attention and point it at Xion. Good job! ]

Wait....you're not a boy? [ Rinoa looks at the Charmander closely. ] Oh. I guess I can see why you were upset!

[ She turns to the camera, smiling. ] Thank you, Xion.

[ Returns the smile. ] You're welcome. Are you still going to keep the name for her?

[ Step by step! Her trainer just gets too...set in her beliefs, sometimes. And be careful with your head! ]

Oh, okay. Let me check.... [ Give her a few minutes to fiddle with it and look at the information.

Okay, she's back. ] Um. I guess Watts is really a girl! [ Sheepish smile. The Charmander looks quite content. ]

If she doesn't mind it! [ Rinoa looks over to see the Charmander shake her head. ] I don't think it's too bad a name for a girl, either.

[ Nods. ] You were talking about having a job earlier?

Yeah! I'm gonna call him Bahamut, and ride him everywhere!

Naw. Friend of mine does, though. [She seems thoughtful.] Wonder how he's doin' with it now...

[Victory fanfare! Rosie and Leviathan jump in the air in a very restrained manner as they cheer.]

Is that so? That would explain the dress... But that shouldn't stop you from calling her Watts. Leviathan does not mind having a masculine name, does she?

[Indeed she doesn't, but that's mostly because Cecil said that she was named after a king that ruled over the oceans. Kind of hard to dislike those kinds of associations.]

[ Unfortunately, Quistis is no better at speaking Pokémon than Rinoa is. Tempest, however, on his trainer's shoulder, gets the message. He examines Watts without a hint of sympathy, but with vague interest. ]

He is! [ Quistis reaches out to pet Watts' head affectionately. ] Watts, huh? [ She laughs and looks up at Rinoa. ] So who's next?

[ And now Watts is thanking them for their help, because that was some skillful maneuvering. ]

Yeah, that makes more sense. [ Rinoa laughs. ] And unless she has any problems with it, she'll probably stay Watts.

[ Watts makes no noise of protest, so Rinoa figures she's cool with the name. ]

Oh, right! [ Rinoa nods. ] Yeah, I'm working at the PokéCenter here in Violet.

It's pretty cool! I get to see a lot of Pokémon and help take care of them.

[They were glad to help! Anything to protect a Pokémon from her trainer's silly ideas.]

She seems not to mind, at least. Then again, she must understand that you named her after someone important to you.

Maybe I can meet you? I'm going to be in Violet in a few days.

Bahamut? [ Rinoa sounds amused. ] I guess that's pretty fitting, especially if you want to scare your opponents!

[Finally she gets it. Flare gives an affirmative grunt and nods, holding up the Pokédex and pointing to it and then making another hourglass figure in the air.]

[ WELL YOU TWO ARE NO HELP. The Charmander loses interest quickly, but allows the lady to touch her head. She can at least be polite. ]

Yep! I figured since I already had an Angelo and a Zone, I should name one after Watts, too! [ There's a fond little smile on her face—these were her bestest friends, back before everything. ]

Who next? [ Rinoa...hasn't really thought about it past completing her set of Forest Owls. ] Hmm...maybe I'll name them after our friends who haven't shown up yet!

I bet she'd like Watts, if she met him. He's a good person to be named after!

Is that so? What is he like?

Of course we can meet up! [ Big smile. ] I'm not sure how much longer we're planning to stay here, but we're in no big rush. And I'd like to say hi in person, too.

[ Smiles. ] Still, I'll try not to be long.

[ Okay, so this is about Watts. Rinoa...mimics his motions with her fingers, as if to better visualize them, before turning to her Pokédex for answers. Give her a few beats to fiddle with it, pointing it at said Charmander, and then—

...Oh. Oh. ] You mean Watts...isn't a boy after all? [ Staaaaring at her Charmander, now. ]
